CGC RAISES PRICES ON JANUARY 18, 2022
Reading Time: 2 minutes
On January 4, 2022, CGC announced that they were raising prices associated with grading comic books, magazines, concert posters, and lobby cards beginning on January 18, 2022.
You may recall that in April of 2021, CGC raised their prices significantly, and just nine months later, they’re raising them again. While the price increases aren’t as sweeping as the previous round, there are still some details that you’ll want to know as you so you can plan accordingly for your future dealings with CGC. So let’s dive in and take a look.
CGC GRADING TIER PRICE CHANGES 2022
If you’re like me, you just got used to the new pricing that CGC adopted in April 2021. Now it’s time to do math again, and see how the new pricing compares to the previous pricing structures that CGC had in place.
So let’s start by taking a look at a comparison of the costs for grading comics today, versus previous periods in time.
Ok, so it’s not that bad I suppose. It certainly could have been worse. Remember, in the April 2021 round of price increases, not only did the cost for each grading tier increase, but so did the cost for Fast Track, Reholder, and Pre-Screen Reject services. This time around, it’s just the price increase on the grading tiers.
CGC SIGNATURE SERIES PRICE CHANGES 2022
As you’d expect, CGC also raised the fees associated with their Signature Series grading tiers. Here’s a look at how the fee structure has changed on that front.
WHAT OTHER PRICES DID CGC CHANGE IN 2022?
CGC also raised the prices for their other grading services for magazines, posters, and lobby cards (see pricing updates here). Their trading card grading services were not changed at this time, and neither were the associated costs of CCS services.
ANY OTHER CGC UPDATES WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF?
A few weeks before CGC rolled out their latest pricing updates, they did announce that all paid CGC members at the Associate level and higher would now get free access to Grader Notes on any CGC graded comic. This is a real nice benefit, because previously Grader Notes would cost you $5-$10 (depending on the value of the book) for comics that you didn’t personally submit for grading.
So now, as long as you’re a paid CGC member, you can use their lookup tool to review Grader Notes on CGC graded comics that you’re considering purchasing here at the Certified Comic Shop, eBay, or any online or brick and mortar retail outlet.
And since that really covers all the most recent updates, let’s just end this article here on a happy note. What are your thoughts on the January 2022 CGC price increases and the unlocking of Grader Notes? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
